Object #96 / Arnold Schönberg: String Trio, op. 45

Twelve-tone row
1946

Arnold Schönberg Center, Wien

Composed between June and September 1946, the String Trio, op. 45 alludes to the vaguely understandable and describable complex of musical inspiration due to its autobiographical context (reference to a heart injection with which Schönberg was resuscitated after collapsing). Physical pain and metaphysical vision are the sources used by the composer to form an auratic web across the purely musical structure of his opus 45. The recollection of physical experience during and after the injection does not present a bold, mimetic moment, but rather various domains of musical expression.
